ok all, started doing strength training a while ago and now really getting into it but i've seemed to hit a plateau on my deads at 180kg... i can pull 160x8 like it's nothing . this has been going for a month now and even tho i train 90-100% max or further the weight doesn t seem to be going up.

my aims to hit 250kgs for reps

to help my deads further im working on hamstrings, standing on plates to help my floor drive, good mornings, front squats and stiff legged

also i have issues with the bar rolling out my hand at 140+ and have to use straps

Hey everybody,
So its been awhile since I've asked any questions on here or anything but i'm in need of some guidance. So to make a long story short I started playing rugby in january. My extrememe lack of conditioning led me to not really being able to lift much during the season so now that the offseason has hit I really wanna hit the gym hard and improve in the fastest time possible.

My lifts are (this are recent lifts that i've done just this past week and a half since season ended): squat- 405 (465 best ever PR)
benchpress: 245x3 (but i hit a 225x12 2 days ago.) (305 best ever PR)
deadlift-425 (485 best ever PR)
Press-205 (this actually is my best ever lol despite not being in the gym I gained 10 lbs on this lift. go figure)


So basically my question is do you think with these numbers I would be able to make still make good weekly progress on Madcow's 5x5. I'm thinking I could. if Madcows ends up being to fast a progression for me then i'm just gonna run 5/3/1 because of how simple it would be to transition it from a offseason program to a in season program. Thanks for the help. ( I didnt put this in the sports training section because the people in that section are only concerned with agility drills and pylos it seems lol. This is easily the best section on bodybuilding.com.)

3x5 to 1x5 Squats

Hey! For the past 3weeks i have been struggling pretty bad with making 3x5 for the squats, and although i have not yet stalled i am not interested in doing 3deloads before moving down to 1x5 for the squats. Thats like 3 weeks, seems like a waste of time for adding 2,5-5kg on the bar. So why not go down to 1x5? Can you guys give me some advice of what i should do? Thanks

I'm really interested in competing in a competition and i was wondering how heavy do my lifts need to be to even stand a chance for my first comp. im looking to enter one that includes squat bench press deadlift and log presses. i don't really know a lot about competing do they have different weight classes or what? i would love to hear any advice from anyone who has competed before

5/3/1 question and DL form feed back

Heres a video of my 3rep day on 5/3/1 i did 9 rep i was wondering if i should increase the next rm by more than 10lbs to get a little less volume or just keep going. Also some feedback on from would be appriciated. I can see that i have lowerback rounding after the 4 or 5th rep also i have this little back and forth with my knee. Thanks in advance

I've been doing the conjugate method for the last few months, and I have gotten great gains on bench and deadlift, but my squat has not budged a pound, so I thought I'd like to try something else. What do you think of this layout?

Week 1
Day 1: 5 3 1 squat with 85%x5+
Day 2: ME upper
Day 3: DE lower (box squats, etc)
Day 4: DE upper

Week 2
Day 1: ME deadlift
Day 2: ME upper
Day 3: DE lower
Day 4: DE upper

Week 3
Day 1: 5 3 1 squat with 90%x3+
Day 2: ME upper
Day 3: DE lower
Day 4: DE upper

and so on.

Or what about staying with conjugate for the upper body, but switching over completely to 5 3 1 for the lower body?
Day 1: 5 3 1 squat with 85%x5+
Day 2: ME upper
Day 3: 5 3 1 deadlift with 85%x5+
Day 4: DE upper

Week 2
Day 1: 5 3 1 squat with 90%x3+
Day 2: ME upper
Day 3: 5 3 1 deadlift with 90%x3+
Day 4: DE upper

and so on.

If you think my ideas are f*cking retarded and I should just completely switch over to 5 3 1, let me know. I know it would be better to ask Jim Wendler but I can't seem to find his email, and I also seem to be having trouble registering on his forum (using my real name).

ive been thinking for the past few days..and im getting really bored of all that stuff

wanted to start a strongman only program using a keg..a sandbag and some other stuff i have lying around here?

anyones thoughts on doing such a program? i just care about being strong no need for all that other stuff.

What kinda low bar raw Squat do you recommend around here?

My normal low bar squat technique is pretty decent. I'm reading starting strength atm and I've been trying to experiment abit with the Rippetoe hip drive technique, but it feels kinda weird yet.
Is this the technique you would recommend for a guy that got no plans lifting with gear?
Should I just practice the technique until I perfect it?

My best squat is 180 kg x3, so I'm not a complete squat noob, just not on the powerlifting level.

Bench press after inguinal hernia surgery.

If i remember right I had surgery feb 9th this year, I had a arthroscopic surgery so the scars are minimal.
I can now do squats and deadlift with no problem, but bench pressing however hurts a bit in my stomach, and even thou I took a 2 week break from it, it doesn't seem to get better.
Anyone else that have had problems with bench press after a stomach surgery? It would not hurt if i do bench press bodybuilding style, but I already have some problems with my shoulders so that's totally out of the question.

I am having issues with deadlift and just incredible pain in my girly hands. I have been keeping the callouses down and treating my hands.

1 rep deadlift is fine, 3 pain is there, 5 reps and I hate myself. Been running 5/3/1 and haven't passed 6 reps on any set. On the 1+ day I normally end up stopping at 3.

On farmers I don't have any issue - so not sure if it is the knurling or just being a baby. I deadlift with a few month old Texas Power Bar.

Will it just take time to get used to the bar?

I went to a gym about 30 minutes away that is almost perfect for strongman training but idk about driving up there for every workout. Anyway they had a metal log there and I never used it before although I was there about 6 times and I loved the clean and press with it. Anyone selling, knows someone selling, or where to find a log? My last resort would be making one I'm sure I would get no help from the family cause they think training like this is dumb and I would probably mess up making it

Stalling on bench press yet other lifts improving

Been stuck at 225 lbs - 240 lbs for reps for a few months whilst all my other lifts having improved without really trying. Somehow my close grip has improved during this time, and I can incline press more than I can on flat. Wut do?
