Bench/Power Rack combo review/writeup from Texas Strength Systems

There are a lot of choices when it comes to Power Racks out there.. and I normally don't post writeups, but I felt I should - since I read some poor reviews about Texas Strength Systems regarding Customer Service and weld quality. I am not affiliated with them in any way. After receiving my bench/rack yesterday, I can tell you whatever problems they had, are gone. This is a quality piece at a reasonable price. Read on:

I did a lot of research before buying this setup. Considering that space is fairly limited in the two-car garage training setup, I had to be careful and make wise choices how I used the space. The last thing I wanted was to overcrowd the area, and make it difficult to use. The key was to get right core of high-quality equipment that would allow us to train all the main and accessory lifts.

I knew I needed a bench and a power rack. Originally, I was going to purchase both. Get a high-quality competition bench, and then setup a power rack separately... I knew that would take up a lot of space, but I didn't want to compromise on the quality of the equipment. Then, I found a Power Rack/Drop-in Bench combo from Texas Strength Systems.

At first, this seemed like the answer - they offered a very reasonable price on a 2.25x2.25 Power Rack with 1" hole spacing, and had an option for a drop-in bench with spotters platform. After doing some research, I found some questionable reviews on customer service and weld quality... I emailed the owner Wes, and worked with him and his manager, Eric.. I felt reassured, and made my decision to go with it.. with a few tweaks.

I checked out my federation's rule book for the exact bench specs (Height and Pad Width) because I knew it differed from what I was used to at the YMCA, and the height always threw off my leg setup on meet day. If I was going to do this, I wanted to do it right. I sent the bench specs over to Texas Strength, and also requested to using a non-slip bench covering, as well as a thick competition-style pad... I also requested to make the spotter platforms larger like a regular competition bench. From order to delivery was less than 4 weeks. They always responded to my emails, and sent me tracking numbers when it shipped. I paid half up front, and then the other half when it was ready to ship. I thought this was very fair.

When I received the shipment, it was very well packaged and wrapped in plastic, foam wrap, and peanut wrap. It had to take a couple hours to wrap it the way they did. Again, nice job. Assembly went together smooth. Everything fit well and snug. After the bolting it all together, it is very solid. I'm ultimately going to bolt it down, but honestly we could get away without it. Its that heavy and solid. (About 250lbs with the bench). The spotters platforms are super solid and held my 280lb body no problem, no wiggle. One concern I noticed online was the weld quality. Not anymore.. the welds are super solid and clean. They are even ground/smoothed down on the surface areas. Whoever did this knew what they were doing.

In the end, I can give Texas Strength Systems a positive review, and honestly say it was a great solution to my needs considering my space requirements. I would highly recommend their equipment.

recently i have been doing this program about 3 and half months
http://muscleandbrawn.com/bill-starr...diate-lifters/

i have reached plateau on row.Im thinking subs row to power clean might just break the plateau

i have deadlift grip issue too, so i added static hold but its not helping much.
how about pinch grip, will it helps?
my grip strength is unstable..idk why sometimes i can grip for more reps, but sometimes i cant even grip for single rep

why is eric lilliebridge so ahead of the game?

When do powerlifters start looking like they workout??

Sorry if the title is offensive, its just that I've always told myself that once I can do "X" weight on "X" lift, I'm going to look like I can! But it's not seeming to be the case... Can someone tell me what might be wrong? Or if its that I'm just not strong enough to be complaining about why I don't look a certain way. I know it shouldn't bother me if my lifts are increasing, but I'm getting sick of people saying " you've been lifting 2 years and you look the same!"

Current lifts are:
Bench 185
Squat 275
Deadlift 405

Has anyone ran Mag/Ort or Coan deadlift with 5/3/1?

My deadlift is not moving at all on 5/3/1 BBB, but all my other lifts are progressing. Would it be reasonable to keep 5/3/1 sets on other lifts and do mag/ort deadlift? It would look something like this

Squat Day
5/3/1 Squat
5x10 Front squat (50% of front squat max)
Abs

Bench day
5/3/1 bench
5x10 OHP (50% of max)
5x10 Row

Rest day before deadlift day

Deadlift day
Mag/Ort
Abs

OHP day
5/3/1 OHP
5x10 Bench (50% of max)
5x10 Pullups

My main concern is not being able to recover for 5/3/1 squats.

current lifts: bw: 160 lb
squat:365 lb
bench: 250 lb
deadlift: 410 lb
OHP: 145 lb

How To Add Strongman Training To My Current Program?

$

My gym has just had an upgrade including a sled, farmer's walk handles and lots of Olympic plates (Thinking about taping them together to use as Atlas stones). They should also be getting some weird soft tyre things, they only go up to about 400lbs though from what I've heard.

I'm currently doing the PNP2 routine on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and do martial arts training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The working sets for the main lifts in PNP2 are:

Mon & Fri:
Squats 3 sets, 3-6 reps
Pause Bench 5 sets, 3-6 reps
Deadlift 2 sets, 3-6 reps.

Wednesday:
2 sec pause squats, 2 sets, 3-6 reps
2 sec pause bench, 2 sets 3-6 reps

My current (100% raw) lifts are:
Squat: 165kg
Bench: 122kg
Deadlift: 220kg

How should I go about adding some strongman style training to my current program?

This is my current 5 rep max since returning to lifting after a heart failure and some other major set-backs. I lost a lot of strength and had so much time away (years) that I treat everything new, so this is my personal best. Before going heavier I want to address issues.

Key points I would like feedback on are:
my hip height and overall lift mechanics
back angle and weather or not it is set properly and looks healthy/safe

Point I know I need work on:
bar path, dragging it so it stays in really close
Grip strength (that third rep suffered from a grip issue so I switched to mixed grip on the 4th and 5th reps)-- I need to get stronger grip I know.

Any comment on those or anything else you can tell me to improve upon is greatly appreciated. Don't hold back, constructive criticism is welcome or I wouldn't be posting to ask for help. I want to get this right and fixed before I get into the 405+ lifts so I may enjoy many years of training.

Weight Belt recommendations

Hi brahs, posting in this sub forum for the first time. I'm buying a weightlifting belt, a lot of people recommended Inzer, but my budget is >60 bucks. Are there any good belts for that price? Also is there a lot of difference between cheaper ones and more expensive ones? I won't mind shelling out 90 bucks if it's worth it

What do you think about this program ?

I can only lift 3 days a week, and I don't like SS/Stronglifts, so I made this program :

Wednesday :
Squat 2*6
Snatch grip deadlift 4*5
Bench 5*5
Upperback 50 reps

Friday :
Squat 5*5
Military Press 5*5
Close grip bench 4*5
Rowing 5*5

Sunday :
Deadlift : 2*3 + 3*2 (with 20lbs more)
Front Squat 4*5
Bench 5*5
Chinups 4*max

Thanks you guys for your feedbacks

I pull better with bars with a diameter similar to the Texas Power Bar. The flex on DL bars messes me up also.

Powerlifting and Joint Health

I feel like this runs the risk of getting locked but wanted yall's opinions on maintaining joint health while doing a powerlifting routine. I'm currently squatting daily (usually work up to around 350) and it's taking a toll on my shoulders the most, weirdly. (Knees are 100%, elbows 90%). I was talking to an ex-powerlifter in my gym and he says he takes 10g of fish oil a day but I thought that kind of mega-dosing was generally not advised?

So how do yall maintain joint health?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Titan Longhorn vs Inzer 10mm

$

I'm starting to actually make serious gains where this cheap Sports Authority belt isn't cutting it for my Squats and Deadlifts any longer. I'm torn between the Titan Texas Belt (Longhorn, 10mm - Lever) and the Inzer 10mm Lever. I was considering even a 13mm Brahma or Inzer but I heard it can really take awhile to break in, and its that much more difficult to deadlift in. I'm set on a 10mm.

Titan Longhorn - I heard the Titan levers are better quality (USA built) than the Inzer, and the leather quality on both the Inzer and Titan are USA high-quality. So would the Titan Longhorn lever one-up the Inzer because of the lever quality? I can also pick one up from LiftingLarge.com in-stock vs horror stories with the Inzer taking forever (even in black color).

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Just going by the vid and what I feel when I pull, I am not using the posterior chain. It feels like I'm leaning too far forward when I pull and I don't feel it in my Glutes or hamstrings.

How can I fix this??!
